  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Search Engine Optimizer

Both meanings involve the art of getting more Free traffic to your website pages by getting higher placements in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS).

Well that’s the simple way to define SEO. It’s really all about getting Free traffic to your website. Now we will take a closer look at SEO by breaking down the various factors which are important for higher search engine placement.

The 2 Part SEO Equation

There are two parts to the SEO Equation:

  • On Page Optimization
  • Off Page Optimization

On Page Optimization and Off Page Optimization represent 100% of the SEO Equation with Off Page Optimization representing about 90% of this equation. This is because Off Page Optimization requires continuous effort else you could lose your search engine positions to somebody who is putting in more effort than you are.

On Page Optimization

On Page Optimization (Also known as On Site Optimization) is all about your website pages and how they are constructed. On Page Optimization considers such factors as:

  • Selecting the right keywords and keyword phrases.
  • Crafting your chosen keywords within the Meta Data of your pages.
  • Placing your chosen keywords within certain parts of your content.
  • The correct use of Headings within your content.
  • Website Structure and how pages are linked together.
  • The correct use of hyperlinks and Anchor Text.
  • The Use Of Site Maps

Correct On Page Optimization tells search engines what your pages are about. As long as the search engine spiders can crawl your pages and figure out what the pages are about, the pages will be indexed for specific keywords and phrases.

But On Page Optimization alone does not guarantee top search engine placement. Diligent Off Page Optimization is also required to rank well for competitive keywords and phrases.

Off Page Optimization

Off Page Optimization (Also known as Off Site Optimization) is the act of getting backlinks to your website from other websites. This is because backlinks from other websites are perceived as votes for your website.

Ways of getting quality backlinks to your pages include:

  • Blog Commenting
  • Forum Marketing
  • Article Marketing
  • Creating Feeder Pages
  • Creating Pages on Authority Blogs
  • Directory Listings
  • Social Bookmarking
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Link Exchanges

Quality Backlinks

Backlinks are more valuable when the pages that link to your pages are related to the content on your pages. For example, if your site is about Doll Houses, the page that links to you will be considered much more valuable if it also contains information about Doll Houses.

The reputation of the website that links to your pages is also an important factor. For example, an established website several years old is considered more of an authority that some site which was registered yesterday.

In addition, backlinks from well established Educational .edu, Government .gov and Organization .org websites are considered much more valuable again because of the authority nature of the website.

What this means is that a single well placed backlink to your page from a related authority site can yield better results than hundreds of low quality backlinks from less important websites.

Look Natural

Don’t go around only getting links from .edu, .gov, and .org websites because it looks suspicious. Go for links from all types of related websites but make sure you include links from these important Authority sites.
